rehearsal #2

2/28/2021

Today was my second rehearsal with the two dancers, Giada and Jodie, who are recreating the duet sequence for a frontal or proscenium audience view. Today we were able to meet for two hours on Zoom, which allowed me to dive into a bit of characterisation as well as teach the entire duet section. We began with a somatic practice - bringing attention to the mind in a seated position. As I played different variations of music I asked the dancers to imagine a candle flickering in front of them. After the first song I asked them to imagine as if the candle light transitioned into light itself. Dancing and playing in front of them. As the chorus of the second song began to grow, so did their embodied imagination. With the introduction of facial expression and joy, their faces and facial features began to come to life. After a short reflection we began the characterisation study that I developed last term. More information can be found with the link below. Their feedback and observations of the study were very interesting, as were the characters they developed. After a short break we dove back into the choreography itself, identifying moments that would be different or changed from the original choreography. This session was very successful, however, I didn't have much time for observation and feedback, as we were chasing the clock. I am very satisfied with how rehearsal ran today because I had a better grasp at movement translation via Zoom and had a clearer expectation for myself and the dancers.
